Anxiety Is a Body That Has Decided
Anxiety isn't weakness. It's your body predicting danger and preparing to protect you — even when the threat isn't real.
01
It starts in your body
Before you have an anxious thought, your body is already responding: heart rate up, breathing shallow, muscles tight. Your nervous system is doing its job — it just doesn't know the difference between this moment and that moment.
02
The prediction system
Your body scans for patterns constantly. If something today resembles something that hurt before, your system sounds the alarm. It's trying to keep you safe, even when the present moment is actually okay.
03
Why arguing doesn't help
You can't think your way out of anxiety because it's not starting in your thoughts. Telling yourself to calm down or listing reasons you're safe doesn't reach the part of your nervous system that's already reacting.
04
What helps instead
Anything occurring in your body affects your mind. A slower breath, a body scan, grounding your feet — these teach your system that this moment is not that moment. The work is repetition, not perfection.
05
It takes time
Your nervous system learned its patterns over years. Unlearning them is slow, steady work. Small daily practices matter more than big breakthroughs, and needing support for this isn't a failure.
